Countdown to Adventure!

Well, the truck is now outfitted with the cargo carrier (note it says Subaru LOL) thanks to my son and his friend. It was much more complicated than we expected; especially painful on a 90 degree day. The carrier is for lightweight extra items- toilet paper, paper towels, windshield washer cleaner, food (yes food because I unfortunately can't eat just anything or anywhere), blanket, etc. I am trying to be aware of the items I'm taking because more weight means lower gas mileage. However, I still have 5 gallons of water and 5 gallons of gas, and the generator, solar panel, food, blankets, maps, books, dishes, and on and on. It's challenging to know what I need while knowing I'll still have too much.

Today was a constant of running back and forth between the truck, trailer, and house (also household chores and cooking up stew and applesauce for the week). Packing was the priority. My son installed the new city inlet for freshwater so the benches are back together. Now to figure out what goes where. The house looks like a tornado hit it with bins and boxes and maps and books all over the place!

I have a very busy week ahead- job interview, dog vet visit (followup to him being sick last week), my doctor appointments, shopping, and getting ready! I was able to get a fair amount done today. There are items I can't pack until the night before- the same night Templeton will need to go back to the vet for either x-rays or a bordatella vaccination, depending on his condition. Now, really? I'm having so many second thoughts about doing this trip, yet I'm still going to head north next Saturday with a full trailer and truck and hopefully a happy healthy traveling companion!

I have a new Thetford portapottie which I love. Sounds weird but the previous sanipottie of unknown age failed a few times and that's just not something you want to happen when you're traveling. And emptying it was not pretty. Now I have a lovely new one that is reliable and easy to empty and clean. The last little fix for the trailer is figuring out how to hold it in place. That may be challenging.

I finally called the RV park near Denali to talk about reserving a spot not knowing when I'll be there. Fortunately they're pretty laid back except I need to give them several days advance notice for dog sitting. Hopefully, she'll have the days open. They charge extra but Templeton gets personal attention along with her dog. I'm more than happy to pay for that. I plan at least two days of the 8-10 hour bus ride so he'll be spending some quality time with her.

I'm not sure I'll have time to write again for awhile so I sign off with- here I go making everyone around me either envious or wondering what the hell is up with this crazy 50-something woman! My answer: LOVE LIFE EVERY MOMENT! Chase that dream, push back the fears, follow your heart and soul to where you want to go. "A grand adventure is about to begin." Winnie the Pooh
